RAMS Analyses and Integrated Logistic Support (ILS)

RAMS analyses are an essential tool for evaluating the capability of a system to perform its intended functions. RAMS requirements are non-functional requirements. They define how a system should be done and not what the system should do.

ItalConsul has acquired considerable experience in RAMS analysis, for various industrial sectors and engineering disciplines. Besides, for the calculation of reliability, it has developed its own prediction tool that no longer uses the failure rate as an information source, which is instead assessed using the analyses.

Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) is a set of coordinated analyses and activities necessary to improve the effectiveness and the economy of a system at all levels of maintenance during its life cycle.

Reliability

Reliability

Reliability is the probability that a component performs a required function under established conditions for a specified time interval.

Reliability is a design feature of the system.

Mission Reliability is the probability that the system performs the required functions during its mission.

Inherent Reliability indicates the request for maintenance and logistical support due to the system's failures.

Availability

Availability

Availability is the probability that an item/system is not faulty or under repair at the time when its use is required.

Availability is a design feature of a system strictly connected with the reliability of the components and their maintainability.

It is a characteristic closely related to the required or desired performance that a system should provide as a whole.

Maintainability

Maintainability

Maintainability is the probability of completing the repair of an item/system at time t.

Therefore, maintainability is a system design feature that indicates the aptitude of an item/system to be maintained.

The maintainability of a system is very important for complex systems and for those systems that it is essential they are available when their use is required.

Safety action

Safety

Safety is a design feature of a system that indicates the absence of unacceptable risks regarding the operation, maintenance, people, environment, and things.

Risk is the combination of the occurrence probability (Criticality) of a potentially harmful event and the Severity of the possible consequences.

Risk assessment/management specifies, identifies, analyses and assesses a risk; then it establishes appropriate measures to reduce and/or eliminate their Criticality and/or Severity.

Testability

Testability

Testability is an important part of a system's maintainability.

Testability is a design feature that indicates the ability of a system to provide its state (operational, non-operational, degraded) and to allow a failure to be located and isolated effectively and promptly.

For this purpose, an automatic test system can be incorporated and used jointly or as an alternative to other means.

RCM

RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance)

RCM is a methodology that aims to ensure the right combination of preventive maintenance activities to perform to maintain the level of Operational Reliability necessary for the established objectives of Safety and Availability and to optimize the costs.
